Bawumia takes ‘custody’ of late musician’s children

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has taken full custody of the two young sons of late Tamale-based musician Mama Rams, known privately as Ramatu Ibrahim.

Mama Rams, a music sensation in the northern part of the country, passed on last week at her home town in Walewale after a short illness, leaving behind two young children.

Dr. Bawumia has now decided to take care of her children’s education and other important personal needs in the absence of their mother.

The Vice President’s kind gesture was revealed the New Patriotic Party’s North East Regional Secretary, Sulley Sambian in a Facebook post on Sunday.

He wrote: “Mama Rams, even as you respond to the eternal call of your maker, we are comforted the fact that Ghana’s finest Vice President, DR, Mahamudu Bawumia has offered to fully maintain your children.

The Facebook post added: “That is an enormous responsibility but God on his side, he will do it. Thank you, big bro.”

Mama Rams, who has been buried in accordance with Islamic customs, was a respected vocalist whose music was mainly high-life.

She has had collaborations with Northern artists such as Fancy Gadam, Macasio, Abu Sadiq, Choggu Boz, KKC, George Cliff, Razakamomg, Kawastone and many others.
